"All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action."
- Prophet Muhammad 632 AC

How do I become a Muslim?

This is a common question asked by those who have truly studied to understand Islam. Indeed, Islam is a very straightforward and logical. It is the only religion on earth that challenges you to contemplate, think and use your logic. Allah says in the Quran:

"Indeed, in the alternation of the night and the day and [in] what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth are signs for a people who fear Allah." (Quran 10:6)

"And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees - of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it yields and [at] its ripening. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe." (Quran 6:99)

"And Allah has extracted you from the wombs of your mothers not knowing a thing, and He made for you hearing and vision and intellect that perhaps you would be grateful. Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? None holds them up except Allah . Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe." (Quran 16:78-79)

Simple steps to embrace Islam

  1. Every action begins with your intention. Quietly, to yourself, make the intention to embrace Islam as your faith. It is important that you accept Islam at your own free will. In the Quran, Allah says "There is no compulsion in religion ..." (Quran 2:256)

  2. Say the following words with clarity of intention, firm faith, and belief:

  3. Say: "Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill Allah." (I bear witness that there is no diety but Allah.)

  4. Say: "Wa ash-hadu ana Muhammad ar-rasullallah." (And I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.)

  5. Take a shower, symbolically cleansing yourself of your past life. (Some people prefer to shower before making the declaration of faith above; either way is acceptable.)

  6. Learn how to pray and practice Islam in your daily life.

  7. Continue to learn, study, and grow in your new faith. Please contact us for more advise.

  8. Maintain your existing family relationships to the best of your ability. Some may have difficulty accepting your decision, but at all times try to keep the doors open and be a good example of humility, kindness, and patience.

*Your conversion should be based on knowledge, certainty, acceptance, submission, truthfulness, and sincerity. It is not required to have Muslim witnesses to your conversion, but many prefer to have such support. Allah (God) is your ultimate Witness! Below is an example of how the recitation of Shahada is done.
